An Update on Awesome April

Guys. My computer is running like it is 1999. Seriously.

I am so so tired right now. I’ve been yawning since 8pm. Cause I’m cool like that.

So what am I doing?

Awesome April update, of course.

I am also writing in my journal. At the same time. Multi-writer. Or something.

Why am I writing in both?

Because they’re different.

Can’t you put the same stuff in both places?

No, I can’t. It doesn’t work like that.

But you’re the writer.

I write what I write in the places that it needs to be written.

Huh?

Don’t think about it too hard.

The things I’ve accomplished so far in Awesome April:

  • started going to yoga again (and was complemented by the teacher on my half-moon pose! “This is perfect, right here.” Bam!)
  • joined the local boxing gym
  • walked to and from the local boxing gym several times
  • set up a 6-disc cd player with a receiver and two speakers
  • made plans for making a media cabinet to house my gigantic cd player and receiver (so much happiness!)
  • painted my ksl classifieds bookcases
  • decided I need to own a pocket jig (I would also like to own a miter saw and a table saw, in case anyone’s thinking ahead to gift-giving occasions, like Happy Thursdays)
  • bought a drill
  • hung all the curtains that have been hiding under beds since last September
  • bought two gallon size mason jars to make delicious fruit and vegetable infused water
  • made delicious fruit and vegetable infused water
  • purchased an office chair and ottoman
  • rearranged the living room furniture
  • worked on turning my discount shelf into a sofa table
  • purchased the materials I need to lift my giant, but too short nightstands by nine inches
  • tracked all the purchases so far down to the item
  • repotted Flo (a miniature hybrid rose) and Bernie (a type of palm) in organic potting soil
  • purchased and hung a picture of Christ and a picture of the temple
  • didn’t purchace any vegetable seeds or plants
  • signed up for two CSA’s: one for spring and one for summer
  • plugged USBs of general conference in my car and my spiffy receiver
  • meal planning
  • food cooking
  • Eating!
  • dishes

It’s been pretty epic so far.

My basement buddy is mystified by the change that’s occurred in the last couple of weeks. I told her to think of me as a full-grown lilac bush bursting from the snow drifts. Weirdest imagery ever? I know. It’s fine.

I am dependent on the weather still. A few stormy, overcast days, and I’m a lump in my bed. With the sun shining most days though, I’ve managed to get through quite a few of the things. I have to shove them all in because I’m only functional six months out of the year.

Still to come:

  • finishing the sofa table and night stand projects
  • decide how to finish the back of my bookcases (fence slats painted gray or a single piece with fabric decopauged to it?) and then do it
  • sanding, repainting, and restaining the basement buddy’s ksl classifieds’ dining set
  • power washing the garage and driveway
  • sealing the garage and driveway
  • painting the sheet rock in the garage
  • celebrating the Ma’s b-day
  • reading in the sunshine
  • prepping for Make Money May
  • emailing my old piano teacher to chat about openings and starting up lessons

I realize I’ve got less than two weeks to make all of that happen. Whatever I manage to get done will prove the awesomeness of April. Whatever doesn’t happen will happen in May. For reals. I need to get these things done or I’ll go crazy.

I don’t know what’s next on my list of things because these things are in my face. I need to give them the old one two (which I’m super good at now, though my shoulders are usually too sore for me to be effective).

In other news, I’m in the middle of about eight different books. Not that I’m consistently reading. Most days I don’t get any reading at all in. So why all the books? Happiness. That is why.

The things I’m working on:

  • going to bed early (oops)
  • getting up early
  • making food rich in protein
  • meditating
  • taking real breaks during work, including a real lunch break
  • standing during a couple hours of meetings each work day
  • drinking more water
  • stretching
  • not stressing
  • organizing my house
  • spending time in the sunshine each day, even overcast sunshine
  • checking off all the things that have been on my list since fall
